This postcard is a reproduction advertisement for the absinthe brand Legler-Pernod. The cardboard sign was given to bars and bistros and would have been hung on their walls around the beginning of the 20th century.
These signs were a popular form of advertising at that time. Legler-Pernod was founded in Couvet, Switzerland (the birthplace of absinthe) and eventually opened a distillery in Pontarlier, France. Pontarlier was the home of all major absinthe distilleries in the 19th and early 20th century.
