Traditional Absinthe Spoon Holder, Style #1

SKU: 1510
€58,98

Spoon holders, referred to as tronc de comptoirs in French, were typically found resting on a bar countertop and used to hold the absinthe spoons awaiting "the absinthe ritual." When a customer placed an order at a bar for an absinthe, they would take their pieces of sugar from a sugar dish or holder and choose a spoon from one of these holders. They would then prepare their absinthe at the bar or a table.

Although there are different styles of antique spoon holders, this particular type is the most commonly found. Commonly seen for sale at antique markets. This holder was the most popular design found in French during the pre-ban absinthe era (before 1915).

Besides being a practical spoon holder, it's a great way to display your spoons.
